Patchwork Family Farm is owned and operated by Amy and Bryan Willoughby. It is a "patchwork" of our collective skills, life experiences and passions that have come together in one place. Amy has been growing vegetables organically and commercially since 1998, together with Bryan since 2009 at our current location.
Our model of farming is often called “Market Gardening” because of the large diversity of crops grown. Over 30 kinds of vegetables, small fruits and herbs! The farm as a business is "what we do" but it is hard to separate from "who we are" and our lifestyle choices. We eat what we grow, we live where we work and we love to share it all with our community. |
Soil
The world is waking up to the wonder and power of that stuff under our feet. We know that the literal foundation for everything we do at the farm is built on soil. And not just some brown stuff that hold the roots of crops in place. A healthy, living soil ecosystem that orchestrates the complex communication between fungi and roots and cycles of nutrients, minerals and water that all plants depend on. And we do too. Flavor starts here! |
Seeds
The living links in a long chain of cultural heritage, seeds are a window into the past and door to the future. Access to seeds ranges from backyard-scale seed savers to multinational corporations. We choose an area in the middle ground from which to source the seeds that we depend on. Hybrid seed varieties (those that don't reproduce true to type) offer increased production and uniformity- traits that stand to better support our farm as a business. We also feel strongly about and align with the goals of preserving heirloom and open pollinated varieties (those that do reproduce true to type and can be saved from year to year). All of the seeds we buy are GMO-free and untreated and include many certified organic varieties. |
