Where are you? The farm is in Copper Hill on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Mile Marker 147. The farm is not open to the public nor do we have on-farm retail sales.
Are you organic? Yes, but not certified. We always have and always will grow food and manage our farm organically. In fact, we take these core values even further by incorporating regenerative farming methods such as low/no-till production, using bio-char and supporting a diversity of both crop and wild species.
How is a small diversified farm different from a big one? In many ways but we will explain just a few. We grow over 30 different types of vegetables and culinary herbs for ten months of the year. There are "micro seasons" within the main season as crops pass through their growing cycles. From March through December we are planting, cultivating (weeding), irrigating, managing, observing, harvesting, packing, marketing and selling. Compare that to a farmer that just grows one crop, like corn or potatoes. They plant it once, harvest it once and often sell it all at once.
What is regenerative agriculture? Well, it's not just another label to confuse customers. It is in fact much more than that. In short, it is a method of farming that builds a legacy of healthy, living soil that sequesters carbon, conserves moisture, grows superior crops, and can even contribute to a cooler climate. The soil is busy down there!
Do you have a CSA? Yes- sort of- through the Blue Ridge Farmer Collective based in Roanoke. We call it a Farm Share and it is a pay-as-you-go ordering system that gives you exclusive access to the member farmers' produce, mushrooms and more.
Where can I find your produce for sale? If you are a chef in Roanoke you can set up an account to buy our produce through the Blue Ridge Farmer Collective. We also sell to LEAP for their fresh food programs in Roanoke including a CSA and Community Market that our produce is a part of. And through the BRFC Farm Share described above.
If there is a question you still need answered please get in touch!
